Course Summary

The Eduqas A-Level in Textile Design is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of textile design principles, techniques, and applications. The course typically covers the following key areas:

• Textile Techniques: Students learn various textile techniques including weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, and embroidery. This hands-on experience allows them to explore different materials and processes.

• Design Principles: The course emphasizes the importance of design principles such as colour theory, composition, texture, and pattern development. Students are encouraged to experiment with these elements in their projects.

• Artist research: A significant part of the course involves exploring various artists and designers who have made notable contributions to textile design. This exploration includes studying their techniques, styles, and the contexts in which they worked.

• Portfolio Development: Throughout the course, students are guided in developing a personal portfolio that showcases their skills and creativity.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

• The delivery of the course involves a combination of practical workshops, group discussions, and independent study.

• Practical Workshops: Regular workshops allow students to engage directly with materials and techniques.

• Independent Study: Students are encouraged to pursue independent research and experimentation outside of class time to further develop their ideas and skills.

Assessment Methods:

• Component 2 (Externally Set Assignment): This component makes up 40% of the overall grade where students respond to an externally set brief.


Entry requirements

Five GCSEs grade 4 or above including grade 5 in Textiles.
