Course Summary

The Extended Diploma in Art and Design course is a highly creative and practical course. It’s taught in spacious light studios which include a mac suite and photographic darkroom. The course allows you to explore a range of creative specialisms including photography, graphic illustration, printmaking, textiles, fine art, drawing, painting, mixed media and three-dimensional work.

This course provides a fast-paced introduction to a range of materials, techniques and processes. Contextual and critical studies cover a range of art and design practices and support your own developments. Extended Diploma in art students enjoy the varied and exciting unit delivery, producing a diverse range of work for their portfolios and future progression.

You’ll be given the opportunity to enjoy our popular research trips which include local trips to Cambridge Museums and Galleries and trips to a number of exciting locations around the country.

This course will give you the opportunity to progress to Art & Design related courses within Higher Education. You will also be supported with identifying creative internship opportunities and apprenticeship applications.

Course Details

This is an ideal qualification if you want to learn a broad range of art and design skills. The course covers a wide range of areas, providing new, stimulating practical challenges, whilst placing your learning within a professional context.

Specialisms include digital, painting, printmaking, graphics, photography, textiles and three dimensional work.

Contextual and critical studies cover a range of art and design practices and support your own learning. The course is enriched with visiting speakers, specialist workshops and a variety of trips.

The course will give you a broad introduction to the creative industries working in a range of specialisms. You will explore processes which develop your creative thinking.

Your work will result in a visually exciting portfolio preparing you for successful progression opportunities.

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 including GCSE English.

Grade 4 in GCSE Art or equivalent.
