Course Details

Our Level 3 programme introduces you to a range of creative practices and disciplines such as: fine art, graphic design, fashion and photography.

What will I learn on this course?

  • How to develop a critical awareness of different perspectives and approaches within art and design.
  • How to use evaluative and reflective skills towards artwork.
  • An introduction to research skills in art and design.
  • Refinement of your skills in: painting, drawing, print making, textiles, sculpture, 2D and 3D media, collage, photography and computer generated imagery!
  • You will complete observational drawings, contextual studies, short projects, group project work and specialist workshops.

Across the two years on our course, you will explore processes and techniques to create various art & design works that will showcase your creativity and skills. In your second year, you will have the opportunity to extend your skills and knowledge with a more specialist focus, leading towards a final major project. The emphasis will be on development, ideas and the creation of exciting and ambitious artwork in order to build an extensive and exciting portfolio.

You will work in our professional studios and use the high-quality, specialist equipment and facilities here at the college; receiving guidance from dedicated course directors and personalised tutorials to support your progress.

Expect to engage in independent projects, dedicating 10-12 hours per week to refining your skills in your own environment and work towards achieving your qualification.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The work on the course is project/assignment based and assessment is continuous throughout the course. The units in the first two terms are assessed at Pass grade only. The final unit is awarded a grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction. This unit is achieved through a personal project proposal, ensuing body of work and exhibition and decides the overall grade for the qualification.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or higher, including English, Maths and a relevant creative-based subject

Or:

  • A relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit or Distinction standard studied at CWA or another further education provider

We really like to see sketchbooks however work can also be presented through photographs.
