Course Summary

This qualification is for students interested in a career within Drama and Theatre. The BTEC Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level and is focused to students interested in a career within the Performing Arts. The course aims to provide a variety of performance experience and knowledge in Drama and Acting.

This course focuses on a near totally practical course. It gives students opportunity to explore a range of styles and skills to develop their craft and ability for a career in Drama and Theatre.

Course Details

There are two mandatory units within the course, one of which is external:

  • Group Performance Workshop
  • Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance

In addition to these mandatory units, there for a range of optional units which include:

  • Theatre Directing
  • Screen Acting
  • Interpreting Classical Text for Performance
  • Acting Styles
  • Developing the Voice for Performance
  • Improvisation
  • Movement in Performance
  • Physical Theatre Techniques
  • Storytelling

How will it be delivered and assessed?

A mixture of internally and externally assessments including performances of devised and scripted performances, presentations, video tutorials. The BTEC course maintains a highly practical assessment structure.

Entry requirements

To study BTEC Performance Acting, students require a GCSE Grade 5 or equivalent in Drama or a similar subject title, and a GCSE Grade 4 in English. Students should also show an interest in Drama and Theatre.

Equipment required

It would be beneficial to have a copy of the core textbook and plays.
