Course Summary
Working in the media industry requires you to be multi-skilled and highly adaptable; here at Long Road we support you in becoming just that!
You’ll be given the opportunity to go on residential trips and day trips to cinemas, universities and even New York.
Live client briefs mean you develop the skills and experiences valued by employers and universities and if you’re eager for more, our friendly staff will be on hand to help you apply for work experience, internships, apprenticeships or university.
Course Details
You will choose to study on either the Filmmaking Pathway or General Media Pathway. General Media includes animation, graphic design, 3D, audio, and visual effects (VFX). In both, you will explore your own creativity and apply your ideas in different ways. There are a mix of projects including individual and small group productions.
Year 1
A typical year one student on the Extended Diploma will study a variety of projects, such as film poster design, producing a documentary film, making a podcast, and creating an animated title sequence. You will have the chance to go on trips such as the VFX Festival in London, and New York (should we be permitted to run them).
Year 2
You will continue extending your skills in a variety of media areas, such as short film, music video, photography, magazine design. You will have a choice as to what area of the media you wish to specialise in, where you will create a Final Major Project (Diploma and Extended Diploma only), developing skills in research, practical, problem solving and evaluation.
You will get support and guidance on your choice of university, apprenticeship or how to progress directly into the industry.

You will be able to progress to a creative apprenticeship or undertake further training to support future employment in the creative industries.
Degrees being taken by students who recently competed their studies are Film and Moving Image Production at Norwich University of the Arts and Digital Media at Leeds University.
