Students should submit applications by 19 December 2025.

Applications will remain open throughout the year and late applications will be considered; however, students should be aware that they may not receive their preferred choices if a late application is received.

Once applications have been received, all applicants will be invited for an interview to discuss their application and ensure that their subject choices are suitable.

The A Level qualification builds on content studied at GCSE. Biology is a hands-on subject and we place emphasis on practical classes; training in relevant scientific techniques; testing of ideas by experiment; and fieldwork where appropriate.

This popular course will allow you to experience a breadth of study including biological molecules, cells, organisms and their environment, genetic information, variation, populations, evolution and ecosystems. This subject has an aspect of data analysis; students should have a good grasp of mathematics.

5 GCSE passes at grade 5 or above including English. You will need a grade 6 in biology and preferably a grade 6 in mathematics.

Whether you decide to work in a laboratory, the field, the ocean, a zoo, a classroom or industry, you can contribute as a biologist. A background in biology gives you many skills and increases your career options so you can adapt to the changing world.
